Chart about genetic illness in Maltese dogs and how they are inheritedGenetic Excellence and Health is our #1 priority.

We use Wisdom Panel Optimal Selection which is specifically for breeders and has the most comprehensive testing for genetic health.

Below you can study each of our Maltese dogs genetic health as well as their AKC Pedigree.

We strive for 0.0% Coefficient of Inbreeding to help ensure healthy offspring, even though 5% is considered phenomenal.

The coefficient of inbreeding (COI) is a number that tells us how closely

related the parents of an animal are. It measures the likelihood that a puppy, for example, will inherit the same genes from both parents because they share common ancestors.

   •   A higher COI means the parents are more closely related (like cousins or siblings), so the puppy might have more identical genes from both sides.

This increases the risk of health problems caused by recessive genes, which

only show up when inherited from both parents.

   •   A lower COI means the parents are less related, so the puppy has more genetic diversity, which is generally healthier.

The best breeders use COI to ensure they’re not accidentally breeding animals that are too closely related, aiming to balance health and maintaining desirable traits.
